So there has been drama at the Royal Ballet recently: 22-year-old principal dancer, Sergei Polunin, decided, ehh ballet's not really my thing anymore.

I saw Sergei win the YAGP ballet competition in NYC back in 2006 and I'll never forget it because when he performed in the gala his music wasn't working. Here was this insanely talented 16-year-old kid and he had to keep exiting the stage at the City Center because the disc was not playing!

Long story short, his explanations in the interview were quite understandable and reasonable so I'm not sure why everyone is so shocked. It's a grueling profession and clearly he was under a lot of pressure.

"You live the life of a dancer. It is not your job, it is your life, and you have to love it so much to be able to take it every day for six days a week, sometimes seven...in a way I did feel that the artist in me was dying a little bit and I wasn't giving as much of myself and putting as much creativity into it as I could, as I should."
