As of this week, my Mom has named me "The Busiest Unemployed Person She Knows."
It could be worse but she is definitely right. She travels nationwide for work and one of her responsibilities is to submit time sheets at the end of each week tracking every second put in to every work related detail in order to be paid properly. She mentioned that if (in a perfect world) dancers were able to submit time sheets for the amount of time spent commuting, warming up, dancing, cooling down, preparing healthy snacks and meals, stretching, conditioning, cross-training, pilates-ing, yoga-ing...we would be millionaires. Seriously, think about it! I spend nearly every waking minute of the day doing something to move that one centimeter forward toward my goals and receive nothing but sweat and Shrek feet in return. For God's sake, it is Saturday night and I am BLOGGING about dance because...well...because...umm...I live in the suburbs and have nothing else to do? Just kidding. It's because I am in love with what I do.
Without a doubt, I love it. You have to love it or else you would quit because on certain days I wouldn't even call going to the studio "fun". On certain days, it just down right sucks. There are different categories of sucky days, but the worst are when the devil in your head chimes in saying "there's always grad school" or "you're looking plump today" or "you're broke" or " your student loans are accruing interest faster than the speed of light" or "take some responsibility for your life" or "you're 21 years old and still don't have a dance job"....and I must wake up, eat some steel cuts, drink some black coffee, put on some tight clothes and stand in front of mirrors (that do not lie) with lots of beautifully talented and "willing-to-take-you-down-for-the-job" girls and try not to kill myself. Of course every single person has their own version of these hurdles, but when you're actually spending money and continuing to put yourself through it day after day...you are either:
A.) insane
B.) absolutely, positively placed on earth to keep on doing it
I'm not sure if I am A or B yet, but will let you know asap :)
Happy Super Bowl Weekend! GO GIANTS! (I can be normal when I try.)
You are a beautiful inspiration to live life doing what you adore (shrek feet and all)
ReplyDeleteA.) Insane
ReplyDeleteB.) absolutely, positively place on earth to keep on doing it
C.) Wonderful and talented and beautiful
D.) All of the Above!
.....
you sound like your D, all of the above -- final answer.
What a wonderful note of encouragement that I appreciate tremendously. Whoever you are...you rock.
